Fake or real, you be the judge…. What do Donald Trump, Malcolm Turnbull and Cory Bernardi all have in common? A conviction that coal and gas is the future for reliable power delivery.

In this enlightened age of mass communication, highly developed technology and a fear for the future of our planet and what condition we will leave it in for our descendants, it’s easy to think that the lunatics are running the asylum.

Let’s look at the real facts, not the “alternative” facts being bandied around.
New US President Trump and his “band of (climate-denial) brothers” want to rip up most international diplomatic agreements, including the painstakingly resolved Paris Climate Change Agreement that requires the world to keep average global warming below 2C.

Meanwhile, both Prime Minister Turnbull and Bernardi, who is about to walk away from the party that got him into power and start his own political movement, still blame renewables for South Australia’s major power blackout last year.

Give us a break, guys. Even the Australian Energy Market Operator has clearly stated that SA’s blackout was a storm-related failure, nothing to do with the technology handling the system’s renewable energy component. Turnbull and Bernardi also fail to acknowledge that blackouts affecting similar numbers of consumers have occurred both elsewhere in Australia and around the world over the past 10 years.

Meanwhile, Turnbull and Bernardi also conveniently ignore our Chief Scientist, Alan Finkel, who says that it is beyond doubt that the time has come to incorporate large feed-in of wind and solar power to the national grid.

If that’s not enough, both the CSIRO and power network owners represented by Energy Networks Australia, have agreed that harnessing our nation’s high levels of wind and solar will cut emissions and be cheaper to consumers.

Energy Networks Australia, representing companies that provide the “poles and wires” of our energy distribution, are on record last year as saying wind and solar will provide nearly all our national’s electricity needs by 2050.

Its new chairman, Nino Ficca, has over 30 years’ experience in the energy industry. “Customers are at the centre of Australia’s energy revolution,” Mr Ficca said late last year.
“And they will be at the centre of my priorities as the Chair of Energy Networks Australia.

“I am pleased to become Chair at such an exciting time for Australian energy consumers. I am determined to ensure the integrated grid enables their choices, and helps to achieve the reliable and affordable transition to a cleaner energy system that they expect.

“I look forward to working with energy network businesses across Australia as we commit ourselves to delivering new and better service.”

At Energy Rating Systems we recommend listening to the people with the “real” news and “true” facts, not those pedalling “fake” news and “alternative” facts.

Here’s what the CSIRO predicted late last year, long before the “fake” news mongers came along.

Its experts said that by 2050, more than 10 million Australians customers will own solar, storage, home energy management systems and electric or hybrid-powered vehicles.

Rooftop solar PV will grow six times its present size within the next 10 years and 16-fold by 2050. The result will be up to half of all electricity generation sourced “locally”, mostly from rooftop systems. Battery storage uptake will be significant.
