Federal Solar Battery Rebate Launches July 1, 2025
The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program kicks off on July 1, 2025, offering generous upfront discounts on home battery systems for households, small businesses, and community facilities.
This new federal rebate is designed to reduce battery costs by approximately 30% in South Australia, with potential savings ranging from $3,630 to $7,860 on typical systems.
Funded as part of a $2.3 billion expansion of the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), the program offers a rebate of up to $372 per usable kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery storage. After accounting for admin fees, the effective discount will likely sit around $330 per kWh.
The rebate is uncapped — there’s no limit on the number of rebates available. Similar to the solar panel rebate this subsidy will gradually reduce and phase out by 2030.
