Solar pumps up the heat savings

This winter is going to put a huge strain on heating systems as households continue to bunker down during the COVID-19 coronovirus crisis.

Hot water is one area where households can achieve significant results by adopting modern, efficient and green technology.

“Solar panels combined with the latest-generation heat pump can smash winter power bills,” a spokesperson for Adelaide’s Sharpe Energy Hub explains.

“Often people take for granted that heating hot water will account for over 25 per cent of their power bill but this doesn’t have to be the case.”

A heat pump operates in the reverse to a refrigerator. It transfers the heat in the air outside the unit to the water stored inside through a heat exchange system. Basically it moves heat rather than generates heat and that is where the cost savings lie.

One of Sharpe’s most popular hot water heat pumps is the EvoHeat Evo270, which is compatible with battery power, such as the Tesla Powerwall 2.
