The two big buzz words around Australia last week were “load shedding”.
As power was cut briefly to 40,000 homes and businesses in SA NSW and Queensland only just avoided the same situation by getting major businesses, such as smelters, to shut down for the day. So the problem is national, not just confined to SA.
Sadly, true to form the Federal Government started the blame game again with SA. This time our leaders stood up big-time with SA Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis asking Federal Minister for the Environment and Energy Josh Frydenberg if “he is even listening to himself when he says these things? It’s really is getting ridiculous and absurd”.
Frydenberg had earlier said SA should have declared an emergency on Wednesday to direct Pelican Point’s gas-fired power station to be turned on.
While ERS will never take sides in politics we are happy to support the facts. Koutsantonis quite rightly said he could only direct power supply authorities in times of a state emergency, such as fire, flood, earthquake and war.
The simple fact is that privately-owned power plants are in the business of selling power to the highest bidder, not keeping the lights on for the nation.
This is another reason to get yourself “energy independent”. Stay connected to the grid but don’t rely on it. Our suite of solar products can offer options for any size household and any budget.
The relentless march of home energy technology, driven by worldwide demand, is making it easier and more affordable every day to join the silent revolution.
